From the Indians today…

The Cleveland Indians today recalled LHP JEREMY SOWERS from AAA Columbus.  He will start tonight, Thursday, May 7 against the Boston Red Sox in Fenway Park.  To allow room on the Indians 25-man roster, RHP VINNIE CHULK has been designated for assignment.

Sowers was optioned to AAA Columbus out of spring training on March 24 after going 0-2 with a 4.91 ERA (14.2IP, 20H, 10R/8ER, 7BB, 6K) in 6 games/ 2 starts in Arizona.  So far this season at AAA Columbus he is 1-1 with a 2.25 ERA (24.0IP, 23H, 6R/ER, 5BB, 22K) in 4 starts with the Clippers.  His 2.25 ERA is tied for 9^th in the International League. While at Columbus Sowers has pitched at least 5.0 innings in all 4 of his starts and in his last start on April 28 at Toledo allowed just 1 run on 5 hits in 7.0 innings of work as he earned his 1^st victory of the season. He wears #45.

Chulk was 0-0 with a 3.75 ERA (12.0IP, 10H, 6R/5ER, 10BB, 4K) in 8 appearances out of the bullpen this year for the Indians.
