Mitchell- Nothing lasts Forever, Even Cold November Rain.
Well, the Clippers streak is over at 13 consecutive wins. It had to end some time and it was a really impressive run for the hometown heroes. The 8-0 road trip was welcomed by me specifically because it gave excitement to games in a couple of stadiums where excitement is decidedly lacking. Despite great game-time weather the whole time and a battle of division leaders in the 1st leg of the trip, the crowds in Gwinnett and Charlotte can generously be described as sparse, just over 2300 per game outside of the Friday/Saturday games.
The G-Braves play in the shadow of the parent club, which may be hurting more than helping. The Charlotte Knights don’t play in Charlotte, they don’t even play in North Carolina. The stadium in Ft. Mill, SC has a very old feel and as long as the Knights are kept out of their dream home in downtown Charlotte, they seem doomed to dwell near the bottom of the league attendance standings.
The Clippers sit at 21-6, still the best mark of any professional team. The Cleveland Indians are tied for the best record in the Majors at 21-9, but as an organization, Cleveland ranks just 7th in total org record at .556. Oakland leads the way with a total winning % of .615. Think they mentioned that to the Tribe after Cleveland took 2 of 3 at the Coliseum?
Jess Todd has a new home. The New York Yankees claimed the Texas righty off of outright waivers. He will be on the Yankees 40-man roster. I have not heard where he will be assigned, but one would assume a trip to Scranton, PA is in his near future. Say hello to Deangelo Vickers for me. incidentally, the 1st season meeting between the Clippers and the SWB Yankees isn’t until June 16th.
Luis Valbuena and Josh Rodriguez are going to be in the left field mix for the Clippers. Valbuena has played there twice now and used Jensen Lewis’ outfielder’s glove both times. Jim Masse of the dispatch talked to Valbuena about the new job.
The Clippers will try to start another winning streak tonight. Get out to the ballpark and take in the action!
