Nunnally named Indians hitting coach
The Cleveland Indians & Manager MANNY ACTA today named JON NUNNALLY Major League Hitting Coach to complete the 2010 Major League Coaching Staff.
Nunnally, 38, has been a Hitting Coach in the Indians Player Development system the last three (3) seasons since retiring as a player after the 2006 season. Jon was the Hitting Coach for the Kinston Indians in 2007 and 2008 and most recently for the AAA Columbus Clippers this past season. Under his tutelage in 2009 the Columbus Clippers led the International League in batting average (.275) as the Clippers placed a pair of players (OF Jordan Brown, INF Andy Marte) on the Triple-A All-Star team. In his first season with Kinston in 2007, the K-Tribe led the Carolina League in batting average and runs scored and in 2008 Beau Mills earned the Carolina League MVP award under his watch.
The Ringgold, VA native played professionally for 15 seasons from 1992-2006 with seven different organizations. Jon spent parts of 6 seasons at the Major League level with Kansas City (’95-’97), Cincinnati (’97-’98), Boston (’99) and New York-AL (’00), compiling a career average of .246 (218-885) at the big league level with 47 2B, 12 3B, 42HR & 125 RBI in 364 games. After being selected in the 3rd round of the 1992 draft by the Tribe, he spent the following three seasons in the Indians organization to begin his pro career before the KC Royals selected him in the Rule V draft after the 1994 season. His finest season in the Majors was in 1997 when he hit 13HR in just 65 games with the Cincinnati Reds.
